"Achievement information for 2014 shows that most students achieved at or above the National Standards for reading, writing and mathematics. Students who achieve below the National Standards are supported by a variety of programmes that cater for their particular learning requirements." |
The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) is the guiding document for teaching and learning in all NZ schools. At Paparimu School, we aim to implement all aspects of the NZC through a robust and integrated programme. Within each class the learning is organised in a way that works to meet the needs of the individuals within it.
The New Zealand Curriculum specifies eight learning areas: English, the arts, health and physical education, learning languages, mathematics and statistics, science, social sciences, and technology. Our students achieve personal excellence via individual and/or group teaching based on their learning needs. Our small class sizes mean more individual attention for each child and targeted teaching to accelerate and improve learning. The Education Review Office (ERO) commented on their most recent visit: "Students are provided with varied opportunities to reflect on their learning. Students confidently contribute to classroom discussions and support each other by providing feedback about ideas, successes and areas for improvement. They confidently discuss their progress and achievement with their parents and whānau. These facets of teaching and learning practice contribute to students being highly engaged and successful in their learning."
You can read more about the latest ERO findings here. Achievement information is used to plan programmes that cater for students’ individual learning requirements. Our teachers know their students well and consider ways in which they can improve their teaching practice. Read more on the Reporting to Parents/Caregivers page.
